1989 NFL Defensive Player of the Year. NFL defensive line coach in Denver, Oakland, Tampa Bay and Tennessee. He now reviews film and builds game plans with players and coaches online.
Keith Millard grew up in Pleasanton, California, as a soccer player. He did not play football until his junior year at Foothill High. At Washington State he arrived as a tight end, moved to the defensive line as a sophomore, and as a senior won the Morris Trophy as the Pac-10's best defensive lineman.
The Minnesota Vikings drafted him 13th overall in 1984. After a season with the USFL's Jacksonville Bulls he joined the Vikings, and in 1989 he had 18 sacks and was named NFL Defensive Player of the Year. No defensive tackle had more sacks in a season until 2018. He played through 1993 with the Vikings, Seahawks, Packers and Eagles.

He started coaching at Cactus Shadows High School in Arizona, moved up through the college ranks at Fort Lewis and Menlo, and then spent more than a decade in pro football. With the Denver Broncos he was assistant defensive line coach and pass rush specialist. He coached the Oakland Raiders' defensive line, co-coached the line in Tampa Bay, and was the Tennessee Titans' pass rush specialist.
His players have included Warren Sapp, Michael Bennett and Jurrell Casey. Four of his linemen had the first double-digit sack seasons of their careers under his coaching: Derrick Burgess, Chris Clemons, Bertrand Berry and Reggie Hayward.
After the NFL he went back to where he started, coaching youth football and high school players at Foothill High and Monte Vista High. He has coached at every level of the game, and he tells players and coaches what he actually sees on film.

What players and coaches say
“Keith Millard is one of only two coaches (Rod Marinelli - Bears) who has the knowledge and skill plus the temperament to coach, teach and prepare the defensive linemen of today’s NFL landscape. Those looking for a teacher as well as a fellow hunter to attack offenses should just take a look and I guarantee you will love what you see. It was a pleasure to work with Keith for three years.”
Warren Sapp7 Pro Bowls, 1999 NFL Defensive Player of the Year
“I owe a lot of my success to Keith Millard, who took me under his wing and took me from being just a guy, into the guy I have become. The vision he had for me was bigger than I could see myself. He was so detailed on the steps I needed to take. Everyday he kept me before and after practice to work on my game. Coach Millard knows what he’s talking about. He was an All Pro.”

“Very rarely do you have a person who has played at the highest level and can also teach it. Keith Millard has the ability to reach young players, to motivate them and to get them to execute.”
Pat HillFormer Fresno State head coach
“Everyone who is interested in defensive line play can learn from Keith Millard. It doesn’t matter whether you are a Pop Warner coach or an NFL coach, you will learn from Coach Millard. As a former NFL Defensive MVP and an NFL coach, Keith has a great perspective on what to teach at all levels and, more importantly, how and why to teach it! We have adopted a lot of techniques after discussions with Coach Keith Millard.”
Ron LynnDirector of Player Development, Stanford University
“Keith is a ‘Big Time Defensive Line Coach’ in all the phases. Without a doubt, he is one of the best, if not the best pass rush expert at any level! He is a great teacher and motivator. Any player or coach would be well served to spend quality time with Keith.”
